Focal extenders
Explore Scientific's extenders are telecentric designs, so they give the same magnification wherever they sit and keep the eye relief of the eyepiece you use: the 1.25-inch 2x, 3x and 5x and the 2-inch 2x and 3x. A 2x doubles every eyepiece you own, so three eyepieces give you six magnifications.
BinoViewer
The BinoViewer takes a pair of 1.25-inch eyepieces, so you observe with both eyes at once. That gives a three-dimensional sense of depth on the Moon, planets and bright deep-sky objects, and less fatigue over a long session. Its eyepiece spacing slides from 58 to 74 mm, and a diopter ring on one eyepiece holder matches the second eye. With a non-inverting diagonal such as a pentaprism the image is upright, for daytime viewing too.
Cases
The Soft-Sided Eyepiece Case, 8.5 by 7.5 by 3 inches, layers EVA foam with rigid board so eyepieces stay in their compartments, and it fits inside any bag. The Backpack Carrying Case takes a small refractor and its accessories to sites a car cannot reach, in padded compartments 18 by 15 inches inside, which Explore Scientific designed to protect the telescope and its accessories.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a focal extender cut eye relief?
No. Explore Scientific's telecentric extenders keep the eye relief of the eyepiece you use, so a long, comfortable eyepiece stays comfortable at high power.
Can I use the BinoViewer in daylight?
Yes, with a non-inverting diagonal such as a pentaprism, which gives an upright image. With a mirror diagonal the view is upside down and may be reversed left to right.
Which extender should I start with?
The 2x. It doubles every eyepiece you own, the simplest way to fill the gaps in a set.
