Catadioptric telescopes have the unique design of combining lenses and mirrors to bring an image into focus. By utilizing both refraction and reflection, Catadioptrics are more error-corrective than Reflectors or Refractors and provide very high image clarity.

Schmidt-Cassegrains and Maksutov-Cassegrains are two popularized catadioptrics among amateur and advanced astronomers. Maksutov-Cassegrains tend to be more ideal for viewing higher magnification lunar and planetary objects.
