See the Sun Like Never Before – Explore the Calcium-H Wavelength
Standard solar filters only show part of the story.
The DayStar Calcium Quark H-Line reveals the Sun’s hidden layers, allowing you to see structures that white-light filters completely miss—including bright plages, active faculae, and the Sun’s intricate supergranulation pattern. Say goodbye to washed-out sunspots and unlock a new level of solar detail beyond Hydrogen-Alpha.
Features
- Optimized for Visual Calcium-H Observing – See solar features at 3968.5Å, a wavelength easier to view than Calcium-K.
- Plug-and-Play Design – No overly complicated set ups. Insert into your diagonal, power up, and start observing.
- Designed for F/7–F/30 Refractors – Works seamlessly; F/5-F/6 users need a 2x or 2.5x Powermate for best results.
- Superior Solar Contrast – Fabry-Pérot etalon with ~5Å FWHM provides high-contrast views of dynamic solar activity.
- USB-Powered for All-Day Viewing – Runs on USB power (5V 1.5A) for all-day reliability. An optional battery pack is available for remote solar observing.
- Full-Disk Viewing on Refractors ≤1800mm FL – Observe the entire solar disk with ease. For telescopes with focal lengths longer than 1800mm, expect high-magnification views of active regions instead of a full-disk image.
- No Built-in Barlow or Focusing Elements – Works natively with your telescope’s optics. Use a Powermate (2x or 2.5x) if required for short focal ratio scopes.
- Integrated 25mm Blocking Filter – Ensures safe and contrast-rich solar observing.
- Anti-Reflective Coatings for 397nm – Maximizes transmission, reducing glare for a sharper image.
- 5-Year Warranty – Backed by DayStar Instruments' renowned optical precision.
Is the DayStar Calcium Quark Right for You?
- Ready to expand your solar views? The Calcium Quark H-Line lets you explore wavelengths that reveal a new layer of solar activity—plages, faculae, and more.
- Calcium-K filters don’t work for you? If you have difficulty seeing through Calcium-K, this visually optimized filter provides the clarity you need.
- Want to upgrade your refractor for solar observing? No need for a separate solar scope! The Calcium Quark H-Line converts your F/7+ refractor into a high-definition solar telescope.
- Interested in solar research or imaging? Capture high-resolution images of solar cycles, plage activity, and magnetic field evolution.
- Prefer a hassle-free setup? Forget complex configurations—just insert, power up, and observe.
Explore the Sun in a Way Few Have Before
The DayStar Calcium Quark H-Line Solar Filter offers a unique opportunity to observe solar features that most astronomers never see. If you’ve already experienced the stunning detail of Hydrogen-Alpha viewing, this filter takes you deeper, revealing plages, faculae, and intricate supergranulation that white-light and H-alpha simply can’t show. Observing in the 3968.5Å Calcium-H wavelength opens a new dimension in solar astronomy, making it easier to track solar activity, magnetic field interactions, and structural changes in the Sun’s chromosphere.
Unlike Calcium-K filters, which are often difficult for older observers to see through, the Calcium-H line is optimized for the human eye. This means you can enjoy sharp, high-contrast solar features visually without needing to rely on a camera. If you've struggled with Calcium-K filters, this is your solution—no more missing details due to wavelength visibility issues.
With a self-contained, all-in-one design, there’s no need for complex configurations, or costly extra equipment. Simply insert the Calcium Quark H-Line into your telescope’s diagonal, add an eyepiece, and start observing. If you own an F/7 or longer refractor, it works right out of the box, and even shorter focal lengths can be accommodated with a 2x or 2.5x Powermate.
Powering the filter is simple with a standard USB connection, meaning you can run it all day from an optional portable battery pack without worrying about power loss. Power is required for operation—the Quark must be connected to a 5V 1.5A power source to function properly. Whether you're observing from your backyard, at an astronomy event, or in the field, this lightweight, portable system is built for long, uninterrupted sessions.
If you're serious about solar astronomy and want to go beyond Hydrogen-Alpha, the DayStar Calcium Quark H-Line is a must-have upgrade for your observing setup. It’s not just another filter—it’s a gateway to an entirely new way of seeing the Sun.

Recommended Accessory for Safe & Optimal Performance
Using the right energy rejection accessory ensures safe solar observing and protects your equipment from excessive heat. The requirements vary depending on your telescope’s aperture:
For Apertures Between 80mm and 150mm
Use a UV/IR Cut Filter (placed before the diagonal) as an Energy Rejection Filter (ERF).
- Reduces infrared and ultraviolet light, preventing excessive heat buildup.
- Ensures stable performance and longer filter life during extended solar observations.
For Apertures Larger Than 150mm
Larger telescopes may require additional heat protection.
- Contact us at support@astrotelescopium.com with your telescope model and setup details.
- We’ll work directly with DayStar to find the best energy rejection solution for your specific needs.
Important Compatibility Warning
Do NOT use red or yellow front-mounted ERFs.
- These do NOT transmit the necessary Calcium-H wavelength and will block important solar details.
- If using an ERF, always choose a UV/IR cut filter, which is designed for this application.
