True 1× LPVOs that push past 8× without ballooning past 20 ounces are a short list. The Athlon Helos BTR GEN2 1-10×28 covers that spread with a 34mm tube, 110-foot field of view at 1×, and the ATMR4 BDC reticle with an illuminated quartered half-circle — all at 18.3 oz, lighter than most 1-6× scopes in its price class.
The ATMR4 is a second focal plane BDC reticle calibrated for 68–69 grain .223 Rem / 5.56 NATO loads with holdover marks out to 700 yards at 10× magnification. At 1×, the illuminated 12 MOA quartered half-circle provides a fast, both-eyes-open aiming point for CQB and close-range engagements — the circle disappears at distance, leaving a clean crosshair for precision work at higher magnification. An integrated ranging reticle sized for a 36-inch silhouette gives rapid distance estimation at 300, 500, and 700 yards.
Key Features
- 34mm one-piece tube with 100 MOA elevation and windage travel — oversized bore maximizes internal adjustment range, with 44 MOA per revolution for rapid zeroing
- True 1× with 110 ft field of view — no magnification at the low end means both-eyes-open shooting with full situational awareness, comparable to a red dot
- Capped turrets — protected from accidental bumps in the field; set your zero and forget it, using the BDC reticle for holdovers rather than dialing
- Advanced fully multi-coated optics with XPL coating — AFMC lenses deliver high light transmission across the spectrum, critical for a 28mm objective that needs every photon at dusk
- Argon purged — inert gas purging provides superior fog-proofing and internal moisture resistance compared to nitrogen-filled alternatives
- Fixed parallax at 100 yards — optimized for the rifle's primary engagement range with no side focus knob to adjust
Ideal For
AR-platform and patrol rifle shooters who need a true 1× LPVO that reaches past the typical 6× ceiling — the 10× top end handles positive target identification and precision shots at distances where a 1-6× runs out of magnification.
3-gun and multi-gun competitors who want one optic from door-kick bays to 500-yard rifle stages — the illuminated half-circle provides red-dot speed up close, while BDC holdovers handle the long shots without dialing.
Hunters on mixed-terrain western hunts where dawn timber shots and midday cross-canyon opportunities happen on the same stalk — 18.3 oz keeps the rifle fast-handling while 10× gives enough reach for longer pokes.
