When the dogs tree a raccoon in a big cedar, the hunt comes down to finding one warm shape in the branches. The Guide TE211M, which Guide also calls the TE Mini, shows it on a 1.43-inch AMOLED touchscreen you watch without pressing your eye to an eyepiece, from a 256 × 192, 12 μm sensor in a 205 g body. Guide rates its detection range at 500 m (550 yd).
Key Features
- A screen instead of an eyepiece. You swipe the menu and tap to choose on the 466 × 466 touchscreen; Guide says doing without the eyepiece reduces eye fatigue over long use.
- One button, five jobs. Turn the knob to Power, Menu, Amplify, Photographing or Palette and the one button does that job; in Photographing, a long press records video.
- The TE211's sensor, a square view. It shares the TE211's sensor and focus-free 10 mm F1.0 lens, but its field is square like the screen: 13.1° × 13.1° (23 × 23 m at 100 m) against the TE211's 17.5° × 13.1°.
- Zoom and image tools. In Amplify, short presses step through 1x, 2x and 4x (1.2x to 4.8x); the menu adds seven palettes, hot track, three scene modes and stadiametric ranging.
- Recording and the app. Photos and video with sound go to 16 GB, and dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4 and 5 GHz) streams the live image to the TargetIR app, which can also run the monocular and update its firmware.
- Built-in battery, quick charge. Guide rates the battery at 6 hours and says 20 W quick charging gives an hour of use from a 10-minute charge.
- Sealed for weather. IP67, rated to operate from -4°F to 122°F.
Who It's For
- Raccoon hunters and close checks. Find the warm shape and pocket it.
- Sharing the view. The TargetIR app puts the live image on a phone.
- A field-tested pick. Outdoor Life named the TE211M "Great Buy, Best Value" in its field test of thermal monoculars and binoculars.
- Choosing within Guide's TE line. The TE211 keeps an eyepiece and the wider field; the TE421 steps up to a 400 × 300 sensor and a 25 mm lens you focus by hand, rated to detect at 1,300 m (1,400 yd).
Accessories & Compatibility
- Charging. Guide lists its quick charging adapter and a USB-C to USB-C cable as optional extras.
- Remote and mounts. Guide lists a Bluetooth remote control as optional. The body has a tripod socket, and Guide Thermal USA lists its TE Series helmet mount as compatible with the TE211M.
- More options. Compare the Guide Sensmart thermal range or all our thermal monoculars.
