Finding a heat signature is half the job; the other half is knowing what it is and how far away it stands. The PARD Bobcat 480 puts a 480 × 360 thermal sensor rated at ≤18 mK, a 1920 × 1080 OLED display and a 1,000 m laser rangefinder into a 170 mm body that weighs 405 g with its battery. Its 35 mm lens gives 3.5x and a 9.4° × 7.1° field, about 16.5 m across at 100 m, and the image, the distance and a compass heading share one screen.
Key Features
- 480 × 360 at ≤18 mK. An uncooled vanadium oxide (VOx) detector with 172,800 pixels at a 12 μm pitch and a 50 Hz frame rate. PARD calls it a new-generation sensor. NETD is the smallest temperature difference the sensor can detect, so a lower figure means a more sensitive device.
- 3.5x and a 9.4° field. The 35 mm objective gives 3.5x optical magnification and a 9.4° × 7.1° field, about 16.5 m by 12.3 m at 100 m, and it focuses from 3 m to infinity. The 3.5x base magnification is optical; the digital zoom steps of 2x, 4x, 6x and 8x enlarge the pixels at the center of the image, which makes the subject look bigger without adding detail. The Bobcat 640 puts a 640 × 512 sensor behind the same 35 mm lens for a wider 12.5° × 10° field at 2.6x.
- A 1,000 m rangefinder and a compass. The laser rangefinder measures to 1,000 m, and a compass is built in.
- 1920 × 1080 OLED. ±5 diopter adjustment, six image modes (WT-HOT, BK-HOT, H-LIGHT, RD-HOT, IN-HOT and SKY) and picture-in-picture.
- Record and share. Photos and video at 1440 × 1080, with sound, save to a microSD card of up to 128 GB, with auto recording, loop recording and time stamps. Wi-Fi connects the monocular to the PardVision2 app.
- One 18650 battery. PARD rates a single 18650 lithium-ion battery for up to 6 hours, and USB-C supplies external power.
- AL6061 aluminum and composite housing around an all-glass, multi-coated objective lens.
Ideal For
- Hunters who want identification and range in one hand, with the distance on the same screen as the thermal image.
- Glassing at moderate distance, where 3.5x shows a distant animal larger than the 2.6x of the Bobcat 640.
- Recording a hunt or a night watch, with sound, auto recording and loop recording.
