The Athlon Ares BTR GEN3 HD 4.5-27x50 APLR13 keeps the whole system in MOA: a first focal plane APLR13 reticle marked in 1 MOA steps and turrets that move 0.25 MOA per click, so the hold you read is the number you dial.

Key Features

• The APLR13 reticle. A 0.2 MOA floating dot sits inside a 2 MOA open center, which keeps a small target visible behind the aim point. Hash marks fall every 1 MOA, every fifth mark is wider and every tenth is numbered, so a long hold is counted in fives and tens rather than mark by mark.
• First focal plane. The reticle grows and shrinks with the image, so its marks measure the same angles at 4.5x as they do at 27x. Range or hold at whatever power the shot calls for.
• Illuminated cross. Athlon lights the vertical line from -10 to 30 MOA and the middle 20 MOA of the horizontal line. The brightness knob is numbered, with an off position between each pair of settings, so the light is one click from off at any brightness.
• Turrets in quarter minutes. Clicks are 0.25 MOA, one revolution covers 25 MOA, and elevation and windage each have 80 MOA of total travel. Gen3 moved to a larger stainless steel turret design like those on Athlon's Midas TAC and Ares ETR lines, with sharper, more tactile clicks.
• Precision zero stop. Once set, the elevation turret comes back down to your zero against a hard stop. Windage has no zero stop.
• HD glass, new optics. Gen3 keeps Athlon's HD low-dispersion glass and pairs it with a new optical system for a brighter, clearer image across the zoom range. The lenses are advanced fully multi-coated, with XPL protective coating.
• Tube and sealing. The 30 mm tube is one piece of aircraft-grade aluminum, argon purged, waterproof, fog proof and shockproof. Side focus parallax runs from 25 yards to infinity.

Ideal For

Shooters whose data is in MOA. One MOA is 1.047 inches at 100 yards, close enough to an inch per hundred yards that a drop chart in inches converts in your head: a 12-inch drop at 300 yards is a 4 MOA hold.

Hunters and long-range shooters who range off known sizes. The APLR13 ranges in inches. Target height in inches × 100 ÷ the MOA reading gives the distance in yards, so a 36-inch target that spans 6 MOA is 600 yards away.

Shooters who want 27x in a 27.3 oz scope. At 27x the exit pupil is 1.85 mm (50 ÷ 27), so the top power works best in good light, and the 4.5x end opens the field to 22.7 ft at 100 yards for closer work.
