The Alpen Apex Steady 20x42 HD Binoculars deliver shake-free 20x magnification through a built-in optical image stabilizer with 2-axis gimbal — eliminating the hand tremor that makes high-power binoculars nearly impossible to use without a tripod. The 42mm HD glass objectives with UBX, PXA, and LPE coatings pull in bright, high-contrast images across a 58-meter field of view at 1,000 meters, and the 644-gram body runs 30 hours on a single AA battery.

Key Features
  • Optical image stabilization with 2-axis gimbal — A precision prism compensator neutralizes hand shake at 20x magnification. Two stabilization modes: Balance Mode (green LED) for tracking moving targets, and Detail Mode (orange LED) for maximum steadiness on stationary subjects. Binoculars remain fully functional as standard optics if the battery runs out
  • 42mm HD glass with triple-coating system — UBX multi-layer coatings maximize light transmission, PXA phase coatings boost contrast and edge sharpness, and LPE (Lotus Pearl Effect) hydrophobic coatings repel water and dirt from the lens surfaces
  • 58m field of view at 1,000 meters — Focused reach at 20x magnification for picking out detail at extreme distances. 4-meter close focus distance allows near observation without refocusing
  • BaK-4 roof prism with 15mm eye relief — Full field of view for eyeglass wearers. LE eyepieces with twist-up eyecups and individual diopter adjustment on the right barrel
  • IPX4 splash-proof and nitrogen-filled — Withstands rain and wet conditions. Nitrogen fill prevents internal fogging during temperature swings — stepping from a warm vehicle into cold air, or glassing in marine weather
  • 644 grams with 30-hour battery life — One AA battery powers the stabilization system for 30 hours. The 185 x 114 x 75mm body balances well for extended glassing sessions
Who It's For

Hunters who need to identify game at extreme range. At 20x, you can pick out antler points, body shape, and movement that lower-magnification binoculars miss entirely. The optical stabilizer makes this usable from unsupported positions — no tripod, no rest, just steady views across ridgelines and open terrain.

Birders and nature watchers who want spotting-scope reach in a binocular form factor. The stabilized 20x optics with a twilight factor of 29 resolve plumage detail and behavior at distances where standard binoculars show only a silhouette.

Boaters, sailors, and marine users who need to read buoy numbers, identify vessels, or spot navigation hazards at distance. The stabilizer compensates for wave motion, and the IPX4 rating plus LPE hydrophobic coatings handle spray and wet conditions.

Eyeglass wearers who have struggled with limited field of view at high magnification. The 15mm eye relief and twist-up eyecups deliver the full field without removing glasses.

Questions & Answers

Have a Question?

Ask a Question
  • what is the warranty.

Lifetime warranty when product is registered within 60 days of purchase.

  • Will they function at high altitude?

Yes, the Alpen Apex Steady 20x42 HD Binoculars will work just fine at high altitudes. Their image stabilization system and optical performance aren’t affected by elevation, so you’ll still get a steady, clear view no matter how high up you are.

One thing to keep in mind is temperature. If you’re in extreme cold, battery performance for the image stabilization feature might be slightly reduced. To avoid any issues, we recommend carrying spare batteries and keeping them warm when you’re out in the cold. Other than that, these binoculars are built tough—they’re nitrogen-purged, water-resistant and fog-resistant, so they’ll hold up well in a variety of outdoor conditions.
