Moving at night, on a trail, a fence line or a patrol route, goes better with both hands free than with one holding a monocular. The Luna Optics DTM1 (LN-DTM1) is a 237-gram digital day/night vision monocular that ships with helmet mounting gear for a standard VAS NVG shroud, set up for the left or right eye. Luna specifies its 1x optical view for hands-free operation, and digital zoom steps to 2x, 4x and 6x for a closer look.
Key Features
- Digital, by day and by night. An f/1.0 all-glass lens and a 1920 x 1080 Full HD CMOS sensor feed a 1280 x 720 HD display, and Luna rates the DTM1 for safe observation in daylight as well as at night. It shows the scene in black and white or Night Vision Green Phosphor.
- Close range without the illuminator. Luna's backlit sensor technology allows close-up viewing and identification in near total darkness, up to 3 m (10 ft), with the IR illuminator off. The sensor carries a 0.0001 lux rating.
- 850 nm IR illuminator. Three power levels and a night range of 100 m (109 yd) in total darkness. Under a full moon, Luna rates the nighttime visibility range at 600 m (654 yd).
- Live view on a phone. Wi-Fi streams the picture to an iOS or Android device. Luna's specifications list no memory card for the DTM1, so it streams rather than records to a card.
- Compass and cold rating. A built-in compass, and an operating rating from -40°F to 131°F (-40°C to +55°C).
Ideal For
- Tactical and patrol work on foot. Luna built the DTM1 for tactical field operations, and on a helmet it leaves both hands free.
- Airsoft and milsim players whose helmets already carry a VAS shroud.
- Hunters and landowners who walk to a stand or check a property after dark and want the view on a helmet, not in a hand.
- Buyers who want recording or color. Luna's handheld G3 monoculars record QHD video and 16.1 MP stills to a microSD card and add a full-color day mode: the G3 5-30x44 and the longer-reaching G3 6-36x50.
Accessories & Compatibility
- Helmet. The mounting gear fits a standard VAS NVG helmet shroud, and the left/right eye setup clasp sets which eye it sits in front of. The helmet and mask in Luna's photos are not included.
- Power. One rechargeable 3.7 V 18650 cell (4.2 V maximum) runs it for up to 3.5 hours with the IR off. Auto power-off can be set to 3, 5 or 10 minutes, and a battery charger with USB cable comes in the box.
