Shooting small groups from a bench, or chasing X's in F-Class, comes down to fine clicks and a fine aiming point. The Athlon Argos BTR GEN3 10-40x56 ABLR4 SFP MOA brings 1/8 MOA clicks, 40x magnification and the ABLR4 reticle's 0.016 MOA lines around a 0.09 MOA floating dot, a reticle Athlon designed "for both Bench Rest and F-Class shooting applications".
Key Features
- 1/8 MOA clicks. Each click is 0.125 MOA, which Athlon's manual puts as "8 clicks to move point of impact one inch at 100 yards", half the movement of a 0.25 MOA click. A turn is 12 MOA, and each turret has 45 MOA of total travel. The zero stop works on elevation; the manual notes "There is no zero stop function for windage knob."
- ABLR4 reticle. Athlon says the 0.016 MOA lines allow "pinpoint precision at extreme ranges, especially on smaller targets", around a non-illuminated floating dot 0.09 MOA thick. Marks every 0.5 MOA run up, down and sideways from the dot for wind and lead holds, numbered to 10 MOA left, right and below in Athlon's drawing.
- Second focal plane. The reticle stays the same size as you zoom, so its subtensions are "only valid at 40x for 10-40 x56 scope": hold off the marks at 40x, or dial.
- Parallax from 10 yards. Side focus runs from 10 yards to infinity.
- Built for weather. Lenses are advanced fully multi-coated with an XPL outer coating. The one-piece 30 mm aircraft-grade aluminum tube is argon purged, which Athlon's sheet says gives "better fog proof capabilities" than nitrogen, and Athlon rates it waterproof, fog proof and shockproof.
Ideal For
- Benchrest and F-Class shooters. Athlon says this scope "opens the door to the world of Benchrest and F-Class shooting", and its sheet lists long range as the ideal application.
- Shooters who would rather hold at any magnification. The Argos BTR GEN3 8-34x56 APLR11 puts its reticle in the first focal plane, with 0.25 MOA clicks, and costs less.
- More magnification. The Ares ETR GEN2 UHD 15-60x56 keeps 1/8 MOA clicks and adds a 60x top end, UHD glass and 56 MOA of travel, at 38.4 oz against 31.8.
Accessories & Compatibility
- Rings. The 30 mm tube takes 30 mm scope rings.
- Elevation and bases. Athlon's manual says the reticle comes centered from the factory, so on a flat base about half of the 45 MOA lies above your zero. For more, the manual points to "an offset 20+ MOA scope rail".
