On a moving boat, one hand is always busy: on the wheel, a sheet, or a paddle. A two-handed full-size binocular is one hand too many when all you need is to read a channel marker or pick a green buoy out of the shoreline. The Hawke Endurance ED Marine 7x42 Monocular puts extra-low-dispersion (ED) optics in a nitrogen-sealed, fully waterproof body you can raise and read one-handed, with a floating strap so a slip over the side does not cost you the optic.
Marine optics live in bright, backlit glare coming off the water, the high-brightness light where Hawke notes color fringing is most often seen. The Endurance ED Marine uses extra-low-dispersion glass to cut that fringing and hold a cleaner, higher-contrast image against bright sky and water. Its roof-prism design focuses as close as 6.6 ft, so the same optic works on the marsh, the trail, or the dock.
Key Features
- ED-glass optics — extra-low-dispersion glass cuts the color fringing worst in bright, backlit marine light, for a sharper, higher-contrast view against water and sky.
- Fully multi-coated, phase-corrected optics — strong light transmission and clarity in a slim, single-barrel body that stows more easily than a binocular.
- Fully waterproof and fogproof — a nitrogen-purged, sealed housing shrugs off spray, rain, and the humidity that fogs unsealed optics on the water.
- Built to work one-handed — light enough to raise and glass while your free hand stays on the wheel or paddle, and its moderate power steadies the shake higher-magnification glass amplifies on a rocking deck. Fine-focusing wants two hands, so treat it as grab-and-glass, not continuous scanning.
- Floating strap included — keeps the monocular at the surface if it goes overboard, so a fumble on deck is not a loss over the side.
- Tripod-ready — lock it off on a photo or video tripod head for steady, hands-free watching from a dock or deck.
Ideal For
- Boaters and sailors who want fast, one-handed glassing that survives spray and the occasional dunk, in a package easier to stow than a full-size marine binocular.
- Kayakers and paddlers who need a grab-and-glass optic on a floating wrist strap that keeps it at the surface if it goes over the side.
- Coastal birders and shore watchers who want ED-glass sharpness and close focus in a waterproof optic that works on the marsh trail as well as on the boat.
