The Explore Scientific 1.25" 5x Focal Extender is purpose-built for extreme planetary magnification. It turns a comfortable 20mm eyepiece into a 4mm equivalent — delivering the power to resolve fine detail on Jupiter, Saturn's Cassini Division, and lunar rilles, all while keeping the generous eye relief of your longer focal length eyepiece.

Like every model in the Explore Scientific focal extender line, the 5x uses a telecentric 4-element optical design with EMD-enhanced multi-coatings on all air-to-glass surfaces and edge-blackened elements for maximum contrast. The 4-element design delivers significantly sharper edge performance and flatter fields than a standard Barlow at equivalent magnification. Threaded for standard 1.25" astronomy filters.

Explore Scientific describes the 5x as "a perfect match for short focal length refractors or reflectors — particularly for viewing or imaging planets in minute detail." For telescopes where a 2x or 3x doesn't reach your target magnification, the 5x closes the gap.
