An LPVO gets you variable magnification but adds length, weight, and a fragile erector system to your rifle. A prism scope skips all of that. The Athlon Midas Flare 5x delivers fixed 5x magnification through a prism-based design that's shorter, lighter, and more mechanically robust than a comparable variable scope — 4.7 inches and 15.8 oz gets you a genuine 5-power optic with an etched APX3 reticle that stays visible whether the illumination is on or off.
The APX3 reticle combines a 2 MOA center dot with a horseshoe surround and MOA-based holdover references for quick ranging and elevation holds at distance. Red/green illumination across 12 brightness settings — including two night-vision-compatible levels — adapts to any lighting condition from midday sun to pre-dawn darkness. Athlon's smart power management shuts the unit off after 3 hours of inactivity and remembers your last brightness setting after a battery swap.
The chassis is aircraft-grade aluminum, nitrogen purged, waterproof, fog-proof, and shockproof. Capped windage and elevation turrets adjust at 1 MOA per click with a reset-to-zero feature after zeroing — simple and field-reliable without the complexity of exposed tactical turrets.
Key Features
- Fixed 5x prism optic — compact prism design delivers clear, edge-to-edge magnification in a package shorter than most red dots with a magnifier behind them
- APX3 etched reticle with 2 MOA dot — always visible with or without illumination; horseshoe surround with MOA holdover references for ranging and elevation holds
- Red/green illumination, 12 settings — 10 daylight levels plus 2 night-vision-compatible settings; smart auto-off after 3 hours preserves battery life
- Fully multi-coated lenses — optimized light transmission for bright, true-color images
- 1 MOA click adjustments — capped turrets with reset-to-zero capability for simple, reliable zeroing
- Aircraft-grade aluminum chassis — nitrogen purged, waterproof, fog-proof, and shockproof
Ideal For
AR-platform shooters who want a fixed-power optic that's more compact and durable than an LPVO, with magnification built in rather than bolted on as a separate magnifier.
Home defense and patrol rifle setups where a reliable, always-ready optic with an etched reticle beats a battery-dependent red dot — if the CR2032 dies, you still have a fully functional aiming point.
Astigmatism sufferers who see starburst or smeared dots through reflex sights — a prism scope's etched reticle stays crisp regardless of eye conditions, making it the go-to alternative for shooters who can't use conventional red dots.
Compatibility
Mounts directly to any standard picatinny rail at a 1.57" center height. The fixed prism design means no parallax adjustment is needed — the reticle stays on target regardless of eye position behind the scope.
