A 152mm f/12.5 Maksutov-Cassegrain telescope with EMD coatings and a 2.5-inch hexagonal focuser — the largest and most capable OTA in the FirstLight Mak-Cass lineup, delivering serious planetary performance in a compact package.
The 152mm aperture gathers 43% more light than the 127mm model and resolves finer detail — the difference is visible on Jupiter's Great Red Spot structure, Saturn's Cassini Division, and the fine rille patterns on the lunar surface. The 1900mm focal length at f/12.5 produces the high-contrast images that planetary and lunar observation demand, while the sealed Maksutov-Cassegrain design folds that focal length into a tube far shorter and more portable than an equivalent refractor.
Enhanced Multi-layer Deposition (EMD) coatings on the optical surfaces maximize light transmission and minimize scatter, delivering brighter and sharper views than standard multi-coatings — a meaningful upgrade when you're pushing magnification on planets. The 2.5-inch hexagonal focuser provides stable, precise focus adjustments under heavy eyepieces and imaging equipment, making this OTA capable of both visual observation and planetary imaging.
The sealed tube eliminates collimation and protects the optics from dust and moisture. Ships with a 2-inch 90° diagonal, 25mm Plossl eyepiece (76x), red-dot finder, and smartphone camera adapter.
Key Features
- 152mm (6") Maksutov-Cassegrain with EMD coatings
- 1900mm focal length, f/12.5
- 2.5" hexagonal focuser for stable, precise adjustments
- Sealed tube — no collimation, dust-free optics
- 2" 90° diagonal with 25mm Plossl, red-dot finder, smartphone adapter
- Vixen-style dovetail
Ideal For
- Serious planetary observers — 152mm resolves detail the 127mm cannot, and the EMD coatings deliver brighter views at high magnification
- Planetary imagers — the long focal length and 2.5" hex focuser support high-resolution webcam and planetary camera work
- Observers who want aperture without bulk — the Mak-Cass design keeps the tube compact and the sealed optics maintenance-free
Good to Know
- Requires a sturdy mount — the 152mm Mak-Cass is heavier than the 127mm and performs best on a solid equatorial or heavy-duty alt-az mount
- Cool-down time increases with aperture — allow 30–45 minutes for the sealed tube to reach thermal equilibrium before high-magnification observing
