Glassing a cut cornfield at last light or picking apart an open sagebrush slope, an 8x binocular can run short on reach. The Steiner Predator 10x42 is the open-country answer in the line: the same Predator Diamond contrast coating that pulls brown and red game out of green and gray cover, now at 10x for the detail that longer shots and bigger country demand.

Ten power is the reach choice. It resolves antler detail and picks apart distant tree lines better than the 8x42, at the cost of a slightly narrower 324 ft field of view and a smaller 4.2 mm exit pupil. If most of your hunting happens in open country or from a glassing knob, that is the right trade. If you hunt tight timber and want the widest, most forgiving view, the Predator 8x42 is the better fit.

Like the rest of the line, the Predator 10x42 is mid-priced glass with a hunting-specific edge, not an alpha binocular. The Diamond coating earns its keep when you are separating a bedded animal from its background; the ruggedness and warranty do the rest.

The 10x42 carries an explicit waterproof rating to 3 ft of submersion, backed by nitrogen filling against fog and the same NBR rubber-armored body as its siblings. It ships with a neoprene strap on Steiner's ClicLoc quick-detach system, so you can drop the binocular into a pack or swap to a harness without unthreading anything. At 26.3 oz it rides comfortably all day, and Fast-Close Focus keeps a suddenly-appearing animal sharp in a hurry.

Key Features
  • Predator Diamond contrast coating: biases the view toward game-revealing browns and reds, here paired with 10x reach.
  • Open-country reach: 10x magnification for resolving detail at distance where the 8x42 runs short.
  • Waterproof to 3 ft: nitrogen-filled against fog with rugged NBR rubber armor.
  • ClicLoc quick-detach strap: swap between neck strap and harness without rethreading.

Who It's For
  • Open-country and field-edge hunters who want reach over the widest field. For heavy timber and the largest low-light exit pupil, choose the Predator 8x42.
  • Glassing-knob hunters picking apart distant slopes by hand before committing to a stalk.
  • All-weather hunters who need a sealed, fogproof binocular that shrugs off rain and spray.

When the country opens up enough that you would rather glass from a tripod, the Predator 15x56 is the long-range member of the family.
