Getting into precision rifle shooting with an FFP scope that has locking turrets, a zero stop, and a usable Christmas-tree reticle usually means spending $800 or more — scopes under that price typically drop one of those features. The Athlon Helos BTR GEN2 4-20x50 puts all three in a 30mm FFP package under $650, giving new PRS and long-range shooters a legitimate starting platform they will not immediately outgrow.
The APRS6 reticle uses a floating 0.05 MIL center dot with 0.2 MIL hash marks and a Christmas-tree holdover grid extending to 10 MIL below center — wind dots progressively widen from 1 MIL at the 2 MIL drop line to 4 MIL at 10 MIL, giving quick wind holds without cluttering the field of view at lower magnifications. First focal plane keeps all subtensions accurate across the full 4-20× range.
Key Features
- 30mm one-piece tube with 32 MIL elevation travel — generous adjustment range for a 30mm platform, with 25 MIL of windage and 10 MIL per revolution for fast dialing
- Locking turrets with precision zero stop — pull up to dial, push down to lock. The zero stop returns you to your confirmed zero with a hard, repeatable stop
- Advanced fully multi-coated optics with XPL coating — AFMC lenses deliver high light transmission across the spectrum, while the XPL protective layer guards against abrasion and environmental damage
- Argon purged — inert gas purging provides superior fog-proofing and internal moisture resistance compared to nitrogen-filled alternatives
- Illuminated etched glass reticle — variable-brightness red illumination with off positions between each setting, powered by a CR2032 battery
- Side focus parallax adjustment — adjustable from 10 yards to infinity for parallax-free shooting at any distance
Ideal For
PRS and long-range competition shooters running lighter rifle builds who want a capable FFP MIL scope without the weight penalty of a 56mm objective — at 27.6 oz, the 4-20×50 saves nearly half a pound over its 6-24×56 sibling while keeping 32 MIL of usable elevation.
Hunters who also shoot precision and want one scope that crosses over — the 4× low end provides a wider field of view (27.9 ft at 100 yards) for timber and brush work, while locking turrets prevent bump-induced zero loss in the field.
Rimfire and air rifle competitors looking for a precision optic with 10-yard minimum parallax — the side focus adjustment goes low enough for close-range benchrest disciplines without compromise at distance.
