The Athlon Ares G2 UHD 20-60x85 Angled delivers apochromatic UHD glass, ESP dielectric-coated BAK-4 prisms, and an 85mm objective in a 45° angled body — the same optical technology found in the flagship Cronus G2, $200 less. The 45° angled eyepiece makes extended glassing sessions noticeably more comfortable than straight-through designs, especially when the scope sits on a tall tripod, when you're sharing it between observers of different heights, or when scanning elevated terrain. The apochromatic lens system controls chromatic aberration across the entire 20-60x range, and the ESP dielectric coating reflects over 99% of light through the BAK-4 prism assembly for bright, color-accurate images from first light through dusk.
At 70 ounces and 16.9 inches the Ares G2 UHD keeps the weight manageable for field transport, and the aluminum alloy chassis with argon purging handles rain, snow, and temperature swings without fogging or corrosion. The 85mm aperture gathers nearly as much light as an 86mm design — the one-millimeter difference is optically insignificant — putting this scope in the same large-aperture class as spotters costing hundreds more.
Key Features
- Apochromatic UHD glass with advanced fully multi-coated lenses — triple-element apochromatic correction brings all three wavelengths of light into focus simultaneously, virtually eliminating the color fringing that standard ED spotting scopes produce at high magnification. XPL protective coating sheds water, oil, and dirt
- ESP dielectric coating on BAK-4 prisms reflects over 99% of light through the prism assembly — the same coating technology used in Athlon's flagship Cronus G2 line. The result is bright, high-contrast images with accurate color rendition from 20x through 60x
- 85mm objective lens puts the Ares G2 in the large-aperture class, gathering enough light for productive glassing well into dawn and dusk. At 20x the field of view spans 99 feet at 1,000 yards for efficient scanning
- 45° angled eyepiece reduces neck strain during extended sessions by letting you look down into the scope rather than straight through it. More comfortable for group use — people of different heights can share the scope by simply adjusting their stance rather than repositioning the tripod
- 70 ounces (4.4 lbs) in an aluminum alloy chassis — argon purged and fully waterproof with a rotating tripod collar for portrait-to-landscape adjustment without repositioning
- 19.5-18mm eye relief with twist-up eyecups — generous relief provides a full, comfortable field of view at all magnifications, including for glasses wearers
Ideal For
Hunters who glass from camp, a truck bed, or a fixed vantage point and want premium optics without the Cronus G2 price. The angled eyepiece is especially comfortable when glassing uphill from a seated position — you look down into the scope rather than craning your neck to align with a straight body.
Birders and wildlife observers who spend hours behind the scope at a time. The 45° angle reduces fatigue during extended sessions at migration watch sites, shorebird flats, or bird blinds, and the generous 19.5mm eye relief at 20x keeps the experience comfortable for glasses wearers.
Digiscopers who mount a phone or camera adapter to the eyepiece. The angled body positions the camera at a natural working height and makes it easier to monitor the screen while adjusting focus — a practical advantage over straight-through designs for photography.
Prefer a straight body? The Ares G2 UHD 20-60x85 Straight shares the same optical platform at 68.9 ounces — preferred by target shooters for natural rifle alignment. For the ultimate in optical performance, the Cronus G2 UHD 20-60x86 adds a magnesium chassis and wider field of view.

Questions & Answers
Have a Question?
-
Is the Ares G2 suitable for use with eyeglasses?
Yes, the Ares G2 features twist-up eyecups and comfortable eye relief (19.5mm at 20x and 18.0mm at 60x), making it easy to use with or without eyewear. This design reduces eye fatigue and enhances comfort during extended observation sessions.
-
Is the Ares G2 difficult to focus in challenging conditions?
No, the single-speed focusing mechanism is designed for smooth and precise adjustments, even in cold and wet conditions or while wearing gloves. This makes it easy to maintain clear, sharp views in any environment. The minimum focus distance of 39.4' (12m) allows for close-up observations.
