Why Choose the DayStar Solar Scout 80mm?
The DayStar Solar Scout 80mm is engineered for serious solar astronomers who need high-contrast chromosphere imaging with precision manual tuning and USB-powered thermal stability. Unlike other solar telescopes, the Solar Scout is ready to go out of the box, offering full-disk H-alpha views with minimal setup. The 1400mm focal length and 22mm clear internal aperture deliver sharp, contrast-rich details of the sun’s surface with the ability to fine-tune the view using the wing shift knob.
For optimal performance, the Quark filter stabilizes in just 5-6 minutes after power-up or adjustment, ensuring your view remains sharp and on-band. The built-in LED indicator provides real-time status updates—yellow means warming up, green indicates it’s ready to observe, and red signals a power issue. The telescope operates best within a temperature range of 40°F to 100°F, so using it outside of these conditions may affect tuning stability.
Designed with portability in mind, the lightweight carbon fiber construction makes it ideal for travel, outreach events, and remote observations. The included hard case ensures safe transport, and the Vixen-style dovetail foot allows for easy mounting on tripods and equatorial mounts. The interchangeable DayStar Quark module expands its versatility, allowing you to use it with other refractors for different focal lengths and magnifications.
While the Solar Scout includes everything needed for immediate observation, a diagonal (pictured) is not included. If you plan to use 2” eyepieces or a DSLR/mirrorless camera, optional adapters are available to customize your setup further.
With USB-powered tuning for stable on-band performance, this telescope ensures consistent, high-quality imaging in any observing environment. Whether you're a dedicated solar observer or an astrophotographer looking to capture intricate chromospheric features, the DayStar Solar Scout 80mm delivers professional-grade performance in a lightweight, modular design.
