The Guide Kodiak TK650L 3.0 is the long-reach model of the KODIAK 3.0 line: a 50 mm F0.9 objective at 4x base magnification, rated by Guide to detect at 2,600 m (2,800 yd), ahead of a 640×512 sensor at ≤15 mK and a 1.03-inch, 2560×2560 AMOLED display. Beside it in our range sits the Guide TD 653L, and the common ground is plain: both are 640×512 handhelds with 50 mm lenses, an 8.8° horizontal field and a 2,600 m detection rating. The Kodiak brings the faster F0.9 lens (the TD 653L is F1.0), ≤15 mK against ≤20 mK, a 1.03-inch display against 0.36 inch, 1,200 m of ranging against 1,000 m and twice the storage; the TD 653L answers with a lighter body (472 g against 593 g) and a 10-hour battery.
Key Features
- 50 mm F0.9 for distance. The TK650L shows an 8.8° × 7.0° field, about 15.4 m by 12.3 m at 100 m, at 4x base magnification. The same sensor behind the 35 mm Kodiak TK635L gives a wider 12.5° field at 2.8x; the 50 mm model trades that width for a larger image of a distant animal and the 2,600 m detection rating.
- ApexVision S1 sensor rated ≤15 mK. Guide's ApexVision S1 system pairs a 640×512 uncooled VOx detector at 12 μm pitch with a 50 Hz refresh. NETD measures how small a temperature difference the sensor can separate from its own noise, and at range, where an animal fills only a few pixels, that sensitivity helps keep its outline distinct from the cover around it.
- A 2560×2560 AMOLED to look into. The 1.03-inch panel pairs with 30 mm of eye relief and a diopter from -6 to +6. There are seven palettes (White Hot, Black Hot, Amber Sepia, Red Hot, Iron Red, Blue Hot and Green Hot), cool and warm display tones, a picture-in-picture window that shows the center of the image at 2x, and hot-spot tracking that marks the warmest point in view.
- A 1,200 m rangefinder in the body. A long press of the down key ranges the target, once or continuously, out to 1,200 m (1,300 yd). Turn on the angle readout to see inclination with the distance, or horizontal-distance mode (THD) to read the level distance on sloping ground; units are meters or yards.
- Silent, with a 3-second start. The shutterless design keeps the TK650L silent while you watch, and Guide quotes a startup time of 3 seconds.
- Stream and record through TargetIR. The monocular saves photos and video with sound to 64 GB of built-in storage, and its Wi-Fi hotspot (2.4 GHz or 5 GHz) sends a live view to Guide's TargetIR app on a phone, where you can also capture, adjust settings and update firmware. Guide's optional remote control connects over Bluetooth.
- Two dedicated batteries. Each battery is rated for 5.5 hours and two come with the TK650L, which Guide rates at up to 11 hours of combined runtime. Charging is over USB-C. Tilt-to-sleep turns the display off when the unit is angled 60° or more, and timed shutdown and a super power-saving mode save charge when you need it to last.
- Weatherproof and ambidextrous. Rated IP67 and for -20 °C to 50 °C (-4 °F to 122 °F), with a built-in compass, a tripod socket, a physical focus wheel and a symmetrical body that works in either hand.
Ideal For
- Open-country hunters glassing pasture, crop fields and hillsides, where the 50 mm lens and 4x base magnification show a distant animal larger than a wider lens can.
- Long sits on a tripod, where the tripod socket, the second battery and the phone stream let you watch a field for hours.
- Hunters who range before they move, with distance, angle and horizontal distance on the same screen as the thermal image.
- Glasses wearers, who get 30 mm of eye relief to work with.
Accessories & Compatibility
The TK650L uses Guide's dedicated rechargeable battery and charges over USB-C from the included 5V 2A adapter and its four plug adapters. A spare battery and a Bluetooth remote control are available from Guide as optional accessories. The TargetIR app runs on Android and iOS.
